Cynthia Ann Parker, or even Nautdah, was an Anglo-Texas woman of Scotch-Irish descent who suffered existence kidnapped twice inside her lifetime - when from either her natural personal at the age of nine by a Native American raiding party, & another time from either her Indian personal at a age of 34 by Texas Rangers. Cynthia Ann Parker was innate 1826 in Crawford County, Illinois1, the oldest little one of Silas Mercer Parker (1802-1836) & Lucy (Duty) Parker. Her immature sib were John Richard, Silas Mercer Jr., & Orlena. This personal & allied families, led by Silas' father John & brother Daniel, moved from Illinois to Texas in 1833. a big class action under a personal patriarch, Elder John Parker, settled touching the headwaters of the Navasota Flow of any stream within present-contemporary Limestone County. Inside 1834 they completed Fort Parker for their protection on the frontier. In May 19, 1836, a big inflict of Comanche & allied warriors attacked the fort, killing 5 men & capturing ii women & trinity babies - Cynthia Ann, her brother John and James Pratt Plummer (boy of her 1st cousin). Cynthia Ann spent all but Twenty-five years among a Comanches. James W. Parker, brother of Silas & uncle of Cynthia Ann, spent good deal of his life & fortune within what became an obsession of shopping for her.
Cynthia Ann was known as Nautdah per Comanches, which means "she carries herself with dignity and grace". She became an adoptive member of the tribe &, when her poor link to to whiten society attestsIi, entirely embraced "Indian ways". Cynthia Ann married one of her capturer, Puhtocnocony (known as Peta Nocona by the whites), and it got deuce sons, Quanah (meaning "smell" or "fragrance") & Pecos (or even Peanuts), & the girl, Topsannah (or even Prairie Flower). Petthe Nocona became a leader of the Comanches.
Around December of 1860, Cynthithe Ann and her girl were among a Native American party captured by Texas Rangers led by "Sul" Ross. At this point she was separated from either her hubby, world health organization was flushed, & her deuce sons. Though a few of the Rangers urged Ross to placed her loose to link to to the Comanches, he considered it better to try to link to her to her whiten personal. Ross knew several settlers got misplaced babies to the Indians, & numerous of the two can sense this was their toddler or even relative. Cynthia Ann & her girl were sent to Camp Cooper, & there she was identified by her uncle, Colonel Isaac Parker. He took her to his personal touching Birdville. Within 1861, the Texas legislative granted her the league of l&, the pension of $100 by the season for the next 5 years, & processed her cousin-german, Isaac Duke Parker and Benjamin F. Parker, her legal guardians. Cynthia was unhappy, never adapted to her newly life among a whites, & attempted to escape in many occasions. Her brother, Silas Jr., was appointive her defender within 1862, and took her to his zero in Van Zandt County. After Silas was mustered into a Confederate Army, Cynthia Ann went to accept her sister, Orlena. Based on data from a few accounts, a Parker personal was negotiating to link to her to west Texas & her adopted humans once a War Between the States broke out.
